International Surfing Day, is an unofficial, environmentally conscious sports-centred holiday that celebrates surfing, surfing lifestyle, and the sustainability of ocean resources.

The ocean makes up most of our planet, and plays a crucial role in our health and survival. Unfortunately, this precious resource has been abused by humans for far too long. And now, more than ever, the ocean needs attention.

Volunteers work to protect our coasts but especially on International Surfing Day, all come together and take a moment to celebrate the waves and beaches that is loved by all.   Surfing is an amazing gift and the beach is an incredible place that should be healthy, safe and accessible to all. As surfers and beachgoers alike, it is our responsibility to foster a vibrant, inclusive community that comes together to protect and enjoy this extraordinary resource by giving back to the environment, organising beach clean-ups, dune and other habitat restoration.

Action is needed to express opposition to sewage in the waters at many beaches in the world, not only in South Africa but the Gold Coast as well as in the USA which is a precarious problem for many surfers who become infected by the bacteria from open wounds from sports-related injuries. Contaminated water leads to sick fish, sick fish cause major ill health to by humans when eaten.

Clean oceans are crucial to all who use the waters
